Specialist tailored tutoring for young students who have literacy difficulties, including dyslexia.
Primary Foundations Philosophy
The greatest learning takes place when we understand the child’s learning profile and needs, stretching them just beyond their comfort zone, and taking them to the next step.
Shared goal setting, providing feedback, developing metacognitive strategies and time for reflection equip learners with the skills to develop increasing autonomy and fosters intrinsic motivation.
Giving students ownership of and responsibility for their learning; creating a culture where it is understood we can take risks in our learning and indeed learn from our mistakes, enables students to be active participants in their learning.

The Primary Foundations Backstory
Kate specialises in supporting children aged 5-10 who have dyslexia and other learning difficulties. After being a teacher for several years Kate was curious about students who were clearly very capable in some areas, but who struggled in others. This inspired her to undertake a Masters of Education, majoring in learning difficulties and gifted education.
She was the Director of Additional Learning Needs Kinder-Year 6 at one of Melbourne’s leading independent schools for 15 years. Her interest lies in the well-being and growth of the whole child, not just their challenges.
Kate is a consultant member with Learning Difficulties Australia and has undertaken training in MSL, Write to Read and Sounds Write, which all use an explicit, sequential phonics based approach to learning to read and spell.
She believes young children are naturally curious and capable, and that if we provide a nurturing, safe environment and develop trusting relationships, in which thoughtful learning opportunities are provided, children will flourish and be the best they can be.
